Washington DC

Washington, D.C., formally known as the District of Columbia, is the capital city of the United States. Washington, D.C. offers a diverse and vibrant cultural scene. The city is home to numerous museums, art galleries, theaters, and music venues.

I was able to explore DC for 4 days and I have been there two other times through out my traveling experience. It is a wonderful city to explore with so many different sights and monuments.

Where to Stay:

When it comes to choosing a place to stay in Washington, D.C. you need to consider the area that would fit your budget and itinerary. Here are some popular areas to look into:

  1. Downtown: Offering convenient access to major attractions like the National Mall and Smithsonian museums. It has a bustling atmosphere with a wide range of hotels, from budget to luxury.
    • Hotel Washington: a great hotel that is located right beside the White House and is walking distance to all the big must see museum and monuments in DC. It is about $300 a night.
  2. Dupont Circle: Has a vibrant dining scene and nightlife, Dupont Circle is a trendy neighborhood with boutique hotels and charming bed and breakfasts. It’s also within walking distance of cultural attractions and historic sites. Different Hotel Options: The Dupont Circle Hotel and The Royal Sonesta Washington DC Dupont Circle.

3. Georgetown: A Neighborhood that exudes charm with its cobblestone streets, upscale shops, and cozy cafes. It offers a mix of luxury hotels and boutique accommodations, as well as easy access to the waterfront and picturesque parks. Hotels: The Graham and Rosewood Hotel.

4. Capitol Hill: As the political heart of the city, Capitol Hill offers a mix of historic charm and modern amenities. It is home to iconic landmarks like the U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court. There are a variety of hotels and guesthouses in the area for different budgets. Hotels: Capitol Hill Hotel and Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

Remember to consider factors such how far you will be to attractions, transportation options, and the overall ambiance that suits your preferences.

I stayed in AC Hotel by Marriott Washington DC Convention Center. It was a very nice hotel located right next to the conference and very walkable to many amazing restaurants, plus there is a really cool rooftop bar, Ciel Social Club (make sure to get reservation if you want a table). We were able to walk to many different Smithsonian and monuments.

Where to Eat:

There is so many different places to eat within D.C. You will find any type of cuisine that you desire!

Zaytinya: (rating: 5/5) Is a Mediterrian/ Turkish restaurant. The food was amazing and one of my favorite restaurants in DC.

Rebel Taco: (4/5)This place had some amazing tacos! The shells were all freshly made. The vibe in the restaurant was very cool as well.

The Red Hen: (3.5/5) This is an Italian place and the apps were amazing. We tried all the different pastas and I really enjoyed the sausage one.

Tatte: (5/5) If you have never been to a Tatte you need to go! This is an amazing bakery; everything that I have had here is amazing.

Farmers, Fishers, Bakers:(3.5/5) This is a cute restaurants located in Georgetown right on the river.

Maydan: This place had amazing Mediterranean food.

Residents: An adorable cafe and bar that is located in Dupont circle

What to do:

National Mall: The`National Mall and Memorial Park is the area located in downtown Washington DC that contains many of the popular monuments that you are going to want to see within the city. This includes: Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, just a few that you can see. There are multiple different places you can rent bikes or electric scooters around the area.

Smithsonian’s: Popular attractions include the Smithsonian Institution, which comprises several museums and research centers showcasing art, science, history, and more. Popular Smithsonian’s include: Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, and Art and Industries Building. There are so many different museums and galleries you can explore that are free! If you truly want to explore all the museums it will take more than just a few days.

Exploring Georgetown: Such a cute and historic area with cobblestone streets. There are multiple different shops and restaurants to explore. Georgetown is located on the Potomac river so you are able to sit and enjoy the water front.

The Wharf: This is also a waterfront area that should be on the top of your list to check out! There are multiple different restaurants and bars that you will be able to enjoy.

Navy Yard: Like the two above areas, Navy Yard is located on the water. You will also find a few different sports arenas in the area if you are trying to see a game. This includes the Washington Nationals and the new new Audi Field.

Itinerary:

Day 1: I got into DC later in the day. We went to Zaytinya for dinner that night and then walked back to the hotel.

Day 2: I was able to go and explore some of the Smithsonians and then headed to dinner and went out for drinks.

Day 3: We were able to explore the National Mall and Georgetown area.

Days 4: Headed Home

Things to know:

  • There is so much to see in DC if this is your first time there try to plan out the areas you want to see the most.
  • I was there in July, it was very humid every day I was there. Keep that in mind when planning the time you want to go to DC and your outfits.
